"Craftsman Pole Barns"
with the Jarvis Retaining Wall System

Pole Barns are a "Slab on Grade" type of construction, which means we generally elevate the finished Floor Height to the highest ground around the building, or higher than the existing Driveway we will be using to access the building. This is to permit proper water drainage away from the building, and to keep the floor high and dry.

The Retaining Wall system replaces the Concrete Wall on Conventional Garages with a poured Concrete Foundation. The Dussia Pole Barn was 3 feet from the neighbor’s yard and elevated 16 inches higher because of the existing driveway we used. Without the Retaining Wall System we would have a landscape problem and water run-off problem matching up with the neighbor’s yard. The Retaining Wall System solved the problems. The Pole Barn looks like ti grew there.

In other cases the yard may have a steep slope away from the building site as with the Woldhuis Pole Barn. On that job a chain link fence around the storm water retention pond was only 20 feet behind the Pole Barn. We couldn’t have filed the site to build the barn without washing out the fence. The Retaining Wall System solved the problem.

In many cases we can retain one corner of the Pole Barn 12 to 24 inches and keep form filing and restoring the entire back yard around a new building. Each job is different and I determine if it should be used during the site inspection when I meet customers for an estimate.
